Geological Time: Middle Cretaceous, Cenomanian Stage (95 million years ago)

Size: 28 mm across pectoral fins, 47 mm in length on a 75 mm by 70 mm matrix

Fossil Site: Lebanese Lagerstätte, Haqel, Lebanon


Flying Fish FossilThis is an unusual, rare specimen of a flying fish fossil; note its dramatically elongated pectoral fins. The genus name is derived from its resemblance to Exocoetes, a modern-day flying fish.
