Wood
Gnat Large (7 mm overall length) member of the Wood Gnats (Diptera; Anisopodidae). It is easy to see the coloration in the wings that some flies of the family possess. The Wood Gnats typically occur in moist places, and are attacted to sap. Perhaps this fatal attraction is what lured this fine example to blunder into the sticky sap of a Hymenaea tree to become the remarkable specimen we see here. |
